My experience in the disability field, coupled with my background in warehousing, has equipped me with a diverse skill set that encompasses efficiency, reliability, and a strong foundation in safety practices. My educational background in disability studies further enhances my ability to provide top-notch support to individuals with disabilities. Having a Nigerian background has instilled in me a rich cultural appreciation and a deep sense of community. I take great pride in leveraging this cultural diversity to establish meaningful connections with individuals of various backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. My dedication to the well-being of those who can’t look after themselves extends beyond professional obligations, as I find immense joy in making a positive impact on their lives.
My main duties consist of looking after clients in various different ways, including cleaning up after them including showering and dressing, taking them out for recreational activities including the movies, footy matches, window-shopping and more. Duties are spread out between different staff throughout the shift and we usually interact with our clients. I also record down notes from every shift, using this to furthermore, improve my handling of my clients.
This role consisted of me looking after one clients, based in numerous northern suburbs.
Responsibilities were very specific and hands on, with the biggest being giving my client his recommended medication.
- I also had general cleaning up duties such as cleaning up my clients living spaces.
- I took my client for walks, to footy games, window-shopping and the movies.
- The role was dangerous as my client did become very agitated at times, but i was also to diffuse the situation well with trained skills and techniques.
- Client did end up police custody often, this resulted in planned and coordinated discharge from that facility to patient's home.
- Guided clients in development of skills and strategies for dealing with individual problems.
- Positioned lifting devices around loaded pallets, skids and boxes to secure materials for transport to designated areas.
- Picked up warehouse debris and deposited waste into appropriate piles and stacked baled trash.
- Secured loads on pallets to minimize damage and worker injuries.
- Complied with safety regulations at all times while operating heavy machinery like forklifts.
- Monitored warehouse aisles to prevent collisions with pedestrians or other equipment.
- Used handheld scanners for warehouse management system compliance.
- Stacked loaded pallets in designated areas using proper stacking methods according to company policies and procedures.
- Recorded shipment data for reporting, accounting or recordkeeping purposes.
- Received and processed incoming orders, ensuring accuracy of information.
- A lot of heavy lifting was involved, including large parcels, boxes and other heavy items.
- Ensured compliance with company policies regarding proper storage of hazardous materials.
