Duties include:
§ Conduct physical checks and audits of WA Firearm Licence holders to ensure compliance with the WA legislative requirements.
§ Conducts investigations into criminal matters relating to firearms, including the apprehension and prosecution of persons of interest.
§ Prosecute breaches either by preferring criminal charge, caution or licence revocation.
§ Conduct reviews of the suitability of licence holders based upon criminal activity or physical and mental fitness. Prepare and submit recommendations.
§ Update and ensure that firearm and licence holder information recorded on the WA Police firearms database is accurate.
§ Conduct inquiries and resolve issues regarding firearms infringements, expired licences and deceased estates.
Special duties and Achievements
For two years I was appointed as an assessing supervisor at the rank of acting sergeant. My duties included:
§ Management of a team of nine public service assessors, including work allocation, quality assurance, developing and training staff, new staff induction, performance appraisals, checking time sheets, ensuring that all administrative practices under my control were consistent with WA Police policy and guidelines, the Equal Opportunity Act and the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act.
§ Assessing firearm applications for approval or rejection based on established criteria, being Genuine Need, Fitness to Hold and risk to community safety.
§ Contribute to the maintenance of practical and applicable statute law pertaining to firearms matters by conducting research and submitting recommendations.
§ Interpret and provide advice and information to internal and external customers in firearms licence applications in accordance with legislation and guidelines.
§ Prepare reports, memorandums and correspondence as required on behalf of the unit relating to firearms licenses and probity checking matters.
§ Regularly review the assessment process in view of improving productivity, in particular to process firearm applications quicker and to improve the quality of assessment.
§ Report monthly to the Officer in Charge, Licensing Services Firearms of productivity and issues impacting productivity
§ Understand and comply with information security policies and procedures to ensure information holdings/systems were kept confidential and utilised accurately and reliably.
§ Establish guidelines and procedures when assessing applications from remote Aboriginal communities
§ Establish guidelines in identifying military-styled firearms for assessors.

Applications Officer - Special Operations Applications Unit 2015 to 2018
§ Write affidavits to obtain warrants under the WA Surveillance Devices Act and the Commonwealth Telephone (Interception and Access) Act.
§ Conduct research on open and closed sources of information in preparation of affidavits
§ Provide advice to investigators on the information requirements for warrants.
Intelligence Officer - Human Source Management Unit 2014 to 2015
§ Conduct research and analysis to support the activities of Human Source Handlers.
§ Contribute to the production of intelligence products. In particular to assess, redact and provide quality assurance for information obtained from human sources for intelligence reports.
§ Provide independent risk assessment on human sources.
§ Maintain and operate the WA Police human source database, in particular ensure that the personal details of criminal informants were secure.
§ Liaise with and share information with external agencies on joint operations.
Call taker/Radio dispatcher/Task vetting officer 2010 to 2014
§ Receive and assess all incoming "000" and urgent calls
§ Elicit information from callers and provide assistance by giving advice, guidance, reassurance, support, and occasionally First Aid life support directions.
§ Initiate Computer Assisted Dispatch (CAD) tasks.
§ Liaise with other Emergency Services organisations and any agencies in response to incidents.
§ Conduct follow-up inquiries in relation to calls, updating and amending CAD incident as necessary.
§ Perform task vetting, in particular conducting primary investigations, identification of repeat victims, locations, offenders and contribute to situational awareness, especially to ensure the safety of attending officers.
§ Undertake enquiries on various WA Police Force systems utilising all information to provide information to mobile police officers.
§ Dispatch, maintain and resolve incidents to police mobile units.
§ Conduct Urgent Duty Driving/Riding (UDD) coordination.
§ Advise the Supervisor of high risk or other incidents, which involve other agencies or logistics in excess of normal resources to ensure an appropriate response.
