Work History

Registered Nurse

Healthcare Australia
Sydney
10.2021 - 03.2023
  • I worked in a variety of wards as an agency nurse. These included general medical and surgical wards. I gained experience in oncology, hematology, geriatrics, and general surgery. I provided and managed the care of unwell patients. My general responsibilities included managing a caseload of up to nine patients, which involved medication administration, dressing changes, and activities of daily living.
  • I also worked as a relief nurse for the Lismore flooding with Healthcare Australia. This involved being placed on two different wards for 11 weeks, which were renal/respiratory and stroke.
  • I gained experience in working within the hotel quarantines during COVID-19. This allowed me to improve my communication and listening skills as it involved a lot of health assessments via telehealth with a wide variety of different languages.

  • Acute Medical/Respiratory Ward - I worked in a 30-bedded ward where my caseload consisted of up to twelve patients per shift. I cared for patients who required treatment for respiratory and cardiac conditions, who may have required non-invasive ventilation and cardiac monitoring. I also cared for patients who required treatment for addictions.
  • Orthopedic Ward - I worked on an orthopedic ward for six months when I first graduated. This was a 31-bed ward where I had a minimum of twelve patients within my caseload per shift. Here, I cared for patients who suffered from bone fractures, arthritis inflammation, muscular injuries, and patients undergoing general surgical procedures. I prepared patients for theatre, as well as taking care of them post-operatively. Pain management, wound care, mobility, and patient education were key roles of my duties on this ward.

Here, I care for people undergoing transfusions, patients who require continuous cardiac monitoring, and intravenous antibiotics. On this ward, I provide patient care and education to patients with chronic illnesses.
