My love of travel began after school when I spent 8 months abroad working as a volunteer in a kibbutz in Israel, followed by travelling in Egypt, Greece, USA, Canada, UK (where I did a cooking school), France, Italy (I studied Italian and art history). This cemented my desire to work in travel. I was fortunate enough to travel to India where my mother lived in the early years of her life during WW2 (we stayed with several regiments where my grandfather and great grandfather were stationed). I have also visited Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) where my father grew up. Both my parents were sent back to Australia to be educated.
I was married in 1993 and my husband and I ventured on a four month backpacking honeymoon through Turkey, Greece, Italy, France and the United Kingdom. This was an eye opener for Rob who had only ventured as far as New Zealand before meeting me.
Travel is one of those wonderful adventures to see and experience other cultures, cuisines and history. I love it.
Running, walking and fitness has been part of my life as long as I can remember. Injuries from running have moved me to walking and Sydney is one of the greatest cities to do this. It is a daily ritual either with my 2 year old staffie, by myself and with friends. I often walk 10kms doing the coastal walks or to the city through the Botanic Gardens. Walking is wonderful for my mental health and fitness and best done early with the sun rising and the peace of quiet streets.
I cannot say I am great cook but what a pleasure it is to cook up a decent meal to be shared by family and friends. We often have people staying and I am renowned for using these stays as an opportunity to try something new! This has been successful and disastrous but always fun.
