Business Manager Dare Energy Brisbane
(July 2017 to December 2019)
- Dare Energy / Contracting, a subsidiary of Adcorp, is a white-collar technical outsourcing and recruitment business specializing in the Oil & Gas vertical.
- Having managed one of the largest and most profitable technically diversified blue & white-collar businesses within the Adcorp stable, I was tasked with diversifying Dare Energy’s business across the engineering, mining, and infrastructure verticals.
As Business Manager I,
- Analysed the marketplace and determined that we would need to adapt our business model to substantially include permanent placements if we were to survive and thrive within the Brisbane market.
- Set up white collar outsourcing in Queensland and across the East Coast, including New Zealand.
- Successfully recruited a small team of technically diverse recruiters. Together we canvassed the market and managed to put together a robust sales pipeline.
- Set up digital marketing campaigns on social media and implemented extensive client interaction, attended industry events, and generally promoted our brand (which was completely unknown in the Queensland region).
- Secured our inclusion on multiple PSA’s and secured several agreements with tier 1 and 2 companies to supply staffing services. (Engineering, Water, Rail, Mining & General Infrastructure)
- Responsible for P&L, budgeting/forecasting and general management of the company’s day to day operations.
- Manage the consultant’s sales pipeline, set, and manage sales targets along with KPI and CRM monitoring, whilst developing key relationships with clients.
Executive General Manager – Capital Africa
(May 2012 to June 2017)
- Capital Africa is a subsidiary of The Adcorp Group and one of the largest managed workforce solutions providers in Africa. We specialised in staffing project work within the mechanical and structural construction sector. Typically involved in heavy engineering, E&I, as well as shutdowns, outages rebuilds and new construction projects. Our main areas of operation covered engineering, mining, petro-chemical, infrastructure, power-generation, pulp & paper, sugar, oil, and gas.
As Executive General Manager I was,
- Responsible for South Africa, Botswana, the Offshore Division as well as White Collar Recruitment Division
- Responsible for delivering on agreed turnover and profit contribution by managing staff; establishing and accomplishing business strategy and objectives.
- Direct, lead and control the daily operations of our South African and Botswana Outsourcing Business, along with the Offshore division and the White-Collar Recruitment Business.
- At peak we would put 2500 contractors to work each day, across multiple national and international geographies and sites.
- Complete autonomy and was responsible for P&L across 2 countries and 3 divisions.
- Met and exceeded financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances, and continually initiating corrective actions.
- Review performance data (financial, sales and activity reports) to monitor and measure productivity, goal progress and activity levels
- Increased management's effectiveness by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counselling, and disciplining managers; communicating values, strategies, and objectives; assigning accountabilities, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results, developing incentives, developing a climate for offering information and opinions and providing educational opportunities.
- Established the procurement, production, marketing, field, and technical services policies, and practices.
Key achievements:
- Increased EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) from 1.97% to 8% in 5 years
- Increased turnover more than 650% from R89m to R581m in 5 years
- Increased PBIT more than 815% (Profit Before Interest and Taxes) from R4.9m to R40m in 5 years
- Contribute on average 50% of the Groups Turnover
- Contribute on average 30% of the Groups PBIT
- Out of 16 Countries & Divisions, I was the most profitable in the group 2 years running
- Only Country to exceed budget every year
- Landed and retained the largest Client in the Capital Africa Group
- Landed and retained 2 clients in the Adcorp group top 20
- Only 45 staff (ops, recruitment & management) vs 250+ staff in similar turnover companies in the Group
- Sales growth of minimum 30% year on year
- 2500 Contractors in the field at peak.
