Highly-motivated employee with desire to take on new challenges. Strong work ethic, adaptability, and exceptional interpersonal skills. Adept at working effectively unsupervised and quickly mastering new skills.
Acquired extensive experience while working at G4S team, Port Phillip Prison for over 11 years. Started off as a permanent staff member in the Youth Unit at Penyhn upon completing ITC. Subsequently promoted to a long-term role in Borrowdale unit, specializing in intermediate management.
Successfully transitioned from a full-time position in Borrowdale to a role in the Tactical Operations Group (TOG), where I have been a valuable member for the past 8 years. Recently promoted to Team Leader, overseeing operations within the group for the last 3 years.
Within the last 11 years I have qualified as an Instructor in Tactical Options , Extendable Batons, OC Spray, Formations.
Also the lead Instructor in Interpersonal Skills (Communication skills) for the Initial Training Courses. I believe this training to be crucial to develop the necessary communication skills required to become an effective and competent officer in the jail as it encompasses (among other things) situational awareness, de-escalation techniques, an ability to recognize conflict indicators and how best to react appropriately in highly stressful and potentially dangerous situations.
Throughout my career at Port Phillip Prison I have maintained an unblemished performance record with no Formal performance management matters despite being in a highly scrutinized position that requires involvement in many high intensity, violent incidents.
Within the 8 years I have been an Instructor with PPP and also being a Team Leader with the Tactical Operations Group I am constantly looked upon for leadership where I believe I’m always able to rise to the challenge with professionalism but also demonstrating a sound knowledge of Incident response and Use of Force operational Instructions. During my time as a Lead Instructor in the various disciplines I am constantly coaching and mentoring staff. Good communication between staff is paramount and a very important part, not only as an instructor, but also conducting my day-to-day duties as a supervisor.
Being an instructor in these various roles I believe has helped me develop the necessary skills to be able to provide information and education to staff with varying levels of comprehension, another challenging role that I find rewarding.
I always adhere to the Code of Conduct and Dress Code HR05 and believe the importance is paramount in showing:
Prisoner Management whether it be mainstream, management or protection classified prisoners is a constant being part of the CHARLOTTE Supervisor, throughout the day we are always dealing with prisoners that are verbally or physically resistive, and I believe that my communication and interpersonal skills have been a great asset over the years in resolving situations with a peaceful resolution. This has also helped me build rapport which is invaluable when dealing with violent or potentially violent prisoners.
During my time at PPP I have often been confronted with potentially dangerous situations and I have a thorough knowledge of O.I: 01 Management and Command of the Prison and O.I:03 Incident Response which dictate how a response should be handled, also when force has been used the Use of Force Guidelines O.I:60.
I also have a thorough understanding of O.I:20 Urinalysis Procedures, O.I:21 Strip Searches and O.I:22 Pat Down Searches three tasks which I perform on a regular basis.
As a former member of the TOG I was often required to conduct Emergency Escorts during the day or after hours. These are high risk escorts and are governed by O.I 103 Escorting prisoners outside the prison. I always maintain a high level of security and professionalism when conducting escorts and always work within the guidelines of O.I: 103.
Constructive feedback is something I welcome and put into practice now for of number of years being an instructor in multiple disciplines and in dealing with staff members that have been at PPP for 20 years to ITC students. I believe this skill will help tremendously as an Acting Manager in getting the best out of my fellow colleagues, supervisors and correctional officers that would be working alongside me. During the start of my training career, I was constantly given constructive feedback by senior training Instructors, and it has made me the instructor I am today.
I feel it is time to expand my knowledge and step up and be given the opportunity, this along with my sound knowledge and experience makes me a prime candidate to become an Acting Manager
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards
Daniel Payne
