  • To Whom It May Concern
  • I am writing to express my sincere interest in the position of Music Teacher at Oakhill College for 2026. With over two decades of experience in music education, I have been privileged to work with talented and diverse students, delivering engaging classroom experiences, leading a variety of extra-curricular ensembles, and supporting students to achieve excellent results across Stages 4–6.
  • Throughout my career, I have demonstrated effective leadership in coordinating performance events, organising auditions, and collaborating within the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) faculty to deliver Music 7–10 and Music 1 programs. I also support the delivery of Music 2 and Extension courses, and work closely with the Head Teacher to assist with report writing, faculty administration, budgeting, program registration, and the management and maintenance of musical resources and instruments.
  • Since beginning my teaching career in 2001, I have taught Music across all years, including HSC Music 1 and VET Entertainment Industry. I am committed to designing inclusive programs that integrate music technology and creative composition, ensuring students learn musical concepts in relevant and engaging ways. My background in VET has equipped me with practical skills in recording, sound mixing, using lighting and vision systems—skills that I bring to school productions and performances in both teaching and technical roles.
  • I have built strong connections with conductors, tutors, and local community groups, actively building partnerships with primary schools to support transition and enrichment opportunities. I have directed various ensembles, including Stage and Jazz Bands, and currently lead our Concert Band. As an experienced guitarist with a background in contemporary and jazz performance, I bring authenticity and high expectations to the classroom, helping students connect with music through real-world practice.
  • I am a visible and enthusiastic contributor to the CAPA faculty, supporting and managing student performance opportunities such as Battle of the Bands, school eisteddfods, Schools Spectacular, musical theatre workshops, and showcase events. I am confident in collaborative environments and am capable of adapting to new settings and faculty directions with commitment and integrity.
  • I am involved in curriculum renewal initiatives for 2026, working with colleagues from several schools to align programs with new syllabus initiatives realising the importance of differentiating teaching for diverse learners, including those in mainstream, learning support, and high-potential and gifted education streams. A recent example of this is a cross-KLA, project-based learning unit for Year 7 with resources using Atomi, culminating in student compositions using rhythm and percussion to express personal and collective ideas of identity. The project promoted collaboration, creativity, and leadership, and was well received at a range of different levels by students.
  • My teaching draws on explicit instruction using clear success criteria to support student achievement. I incorporate digital tools such as Google Forms and Google Classroom to provide formative feedback, track progress, and maintain engagement through structured, sequenced lessons. By involving students in repertoire selection and ensemble leadership roles, I am supportive of giving shared responsibility for student-directed learning to improve assessment outcomes.
  • A safe and supportive learning environment is at the core of my teaching. At Northmead CAPA High School, we model and reinforce our school values—respect, responsibility, commitment, community, and tolerance, believing that when students feel valued and supported, they are empowered to succeed. Setting clear expectations, fostering mutual respect, and maintaining high standards are key to creating a classroom culture where students thrive.
  • I am committed to ongoing professional development and continually refining my programs, assessments, and teaching strategies to uphold the high expectations of the school community. I support the Lassallian ethos of Oakhill College and welcome the opportunity to contribute my experience and skills to the Music Department. I look forward to discussing the responsibilities associated with this position.
  • Thank you for considering my application.
  • Warm regards
