I am a committed teacher who has been teaching since 1995 and I’ve still not been worn down! I am a phenomenally successful teacher and Learning Area Leader, demonstrated by my class results consistently being in the upper quartile of all teacher results and my department results being consistently above projected results. I have vast experience of teaching in both the UK and in Australia. My teaching has covered all year groups from Year 7 though to Year 13. Ultimately I’m looking to secure a long-term contract in Adelaide, ideally in a middle leadership role. Organized and dependable candidate successful at managing multiple priorities with a positive attitude. Willingness to take on added responsibilities to meet team goals.   • Term 1 Coober Pedy Area School - NIT and SACE support
  • Having recently returned from the UK to Adelaide I wanted to get straight into teaching
  • As soon as all my TRB paperwork was complete I accepted a Term 1 contract in Coober Pedy
  • Assisted students with meeting the requirements to pass their SACE.

  • In the short space of time I’ve been at Glenunga I have:
  • Successfully led the Humanities team in developing and running 6 OLEs to date (for comparison, none were run the previous year)
  • Initiated a process to establish collaboratively developed Teaching and Learning Cycles
  • Put plans in place for effective moderation of key pieces of assessment.

  • Responsible for Junior school and Y7-High School planning
  • Towards the end of my Term 2 contract this AP role came up
  • I was interested in developing my leadership skills in a role I’m less accustomed to so applied, and won, the position
  • During my six-month contract:
  • I led a team to develop and improve upon two full days of transition program for Y7
  • Took part in webinars related to planning for Y7-HS, feeding back to whole staff on the implications of the Y7-HS move
  • Created a working group of 14 members, representing every department in the school, to develop Y7-HS plans in the context of Mount Gambier High School
  • One of the key decisions we made under my leadership was an agreement for the school to move to a middle school model of teaching.

  • Although it meant leaving my family in Adelaide I was keen to get established in the South Australian Education system so accepted a Term 2 contract at Mount Gambier High School
  • During this term I:
  • Contributed to the $20 Boss program as part of the Humanities team
  • Planned and assessed a full teaching programme for Y9 science.

  • Responsible for the pastoral care of 181 pupils, leading a team of six tutors
  • Mainly I taught geography, but I also taught lower school science, history, humanities and Y10 photography
  • Key Points:
  • Working closely with a wide range of external agencies with regard to pupil pastoral care
  • My year groups frequently became the best in school in respect of behaviour and attendance (source: ClassCharts data)

  • Returning to the UK, following a brief trip to Australia, I was successful in being appointed Head of Faculty at The Forest School, responsible for leading and managing seventeen teachers, five subjects indirectly, and directly responsible for Geography
  • Key aspects of my time at The Forest include:
  • Leading the faculty to achieve significantly better results in Humanities compared to national averages - the best performing faculty in the school (source: RaiseONLINE)
  • Working closely with individual subject leaders to train them on the use of IT systems in order to identify underachievement
  • Successfully leading the History Department whilst the Head of History was on maternity leave, producing the best GCSE results for three years in the process.

  • Building on my experience of teaching in a private, Catholic, school in Australia I actively sought a similar position in the UK and was appointed Head of Geography at Brigidine School
  • At Brigidine I took an active part in whole school activities, including:
  • Residential trip to the Isle of Wight
  • Competed in the staff team at the netball, rounders and athletics events
  • Ran an extra digital photography club for Year 9 girls
  • My success in the classroom is best illustrated by reversing the falling trend in Geography examination results
  • I left Brigidine to visit Australia, in preparation for a permanent migration in the future.

  • Upon returning to the UK I gained a fifteen month contract at Crown Woods School
  • In the time I was in Australia the department had suffered neglect - good exam passes (grades A
  • C) fell from over 60% (above the school average) to below 30% (below the school average)
  • My success in turning the department around is best demonstrated by raising Geography exam results to 51% and back above the school average.

  • After settling in to Australian life I was pleased to secure a teaching position at Cardijn College
  • At Cardijn I took an active part in whole school activities, including:

  • It was with great sadness that, for important personal reasons, I had to return to the UK.

  • I secured a contract working in the Christies Beach Special Needs Unit, shortly after arriving

  • Crown Woods was London’s largest secondary school at this time, with up to 2,000 students
  • Drawing from a challenging socio-economic catchment area the school nonetheless received high praise from Government Inspectors
  • Key aspects of my success include:
  • A leading member of the Humanities Specialist School Status team – successfully gaining Specialist School status in June 2005
  • Led the Geography department (previously failing) to consistently outperform the school average from 2003 onwards
  • Completed full yearly audits of the School’s Work Related Learning (WRL) provision, and directed Heads of Faculty on the implementation of new WRL policies.
