Employment History

June 2012 - Current: Employed by Flinders Logistics/Aurizon

Logistics team member/GWE/Operations Supervisor

As a logistics operation team member, my position involved operating mobile plant which included reachstackers, heavy forks and wharf tugs. I was also involved in the rail operations, which included unloading containers from train wagons and then backloading them with empty containers.

I was similarly responsible for the loading and unloading of trucks around the yard. Other duties included

  • Various maintenance jobs around the yard
  • Repairing of misting bars
  • Removing rust and spray painting shipping containers and
  • Light carpentry work

I also carried out discharge operations at Berth 18-20, which mainly included discharging Soda ash and Soya bean meal, either as a hopper operator or through cleaning out of hatches.

I completed a special project too, which involved removing and replacing of the ceiling tiles in the office block and then painting the office block and the new lunchroom.

GWE

As a GWE, I carried out all of the above tasks, but added to my skill base, by obtaining my C1 crane ticket, which allowed me, once properly trained, to load bulk container vessels. With this, I also trained up and become a competent ship crane operator, on the discharge vessels. In this period, I trained up to become a relief team leader too.

Operations Supervisor

Once becoming a full time operations supervisor tasks included but not limited to below

Position involved residential and commercial painting, including cutting and rolling walls and ceilings,all preparation work, repairing walls, ceilings and woodwork, enameling woodwork, flushing walls and ceilings, and some aspects of decorative finishes.
