Years of professional experience in power generation
Hi My name is David McKerrow I have been with Aurora / Hydro for 25 years as a Mechanical power station operator and Generation works coordinator for King Island in this time I have ran many projects and trained many apprentices and also power station operators. In the early years of my employment with Aurora / Hydro I played a major roll in developing power station operational manuals for King and Flinders Island also developed a training record book for trainee power station operators. In 2021 assisted with the Training plan for the Hydro mechanical apprentices. In 2023 My family and I relocated from King Island to the north west coast of Tasmania and I have been working from Home ad works coordinator for the King island power station. Doing three week working from home and one week a month on King island doing on-call work ect. Also in this time I have been working on developing maintenance plans for the King and Flinders Island power stations also organising the day to day running and operation of the King Island Power station. in the last 12 months I have been involved with the renewable energy refurbishment project on King island as the on island point of contact ( logistics, issuing PTW and training contractors ECT).
I have a sound understanding of budgeting the use of SAP, word, exell ect I am very good at prioritising work. I work well in a team on solo. I have excellent commutation skills be it verbal or email or public speaking.
In my personal life when i was living on King island I was heavily involved with the fire brigade and served 25 years as a volunteer with 12 years as second officer and 7 as chief of the Currie fire brigade (the main brigand on King Island) I am still a member of the King island fire Brigade and go to training on the weeks that I am on king island.
other Hobbes include prospecting for Gold and gem's, Scouts (with My son), gardening, working on vehicles, Bush walking and spending time with my family.
I have been interested in the roll of Operational Mentoring for many years and feel that I could bring a vast array of knowledge and Value to this position with the contacts in and outside of Hydro that I have created in the past 25 years. I also feel that passing on knowledge is the most important job of any trades person. Not only training apprentices but also there mentors as I feel many of the older Trades people have the skills and knowledge and are happy to pass it on but just don't know how.
I am more than Happy to undertake any training that is sent my way as i also feel that you should never stop learning and trying to improve your self.
