International Education Experience

  • Twenty-three years of experience in designing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses (subjects) in survey measurement science, cadastral surveying, and land development in the Surveying and Geospatial Science Degree. I was awarded the2013 RMIT College of Science, Engineering and Health Award for Teaching Excellence.
  • Lead author of an E-learning curriculum on land tenure and natural disasters, for the UN FAO Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the context of National Food Security. Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (UN FAO) – “VG8: Addressing Tenure Issues in the Context of Natural Disasters”.
  • Supervision and management of a Global Land Tool Network Project to develop teaching materials to support an International Curriculum on “Responsible Land Administration”. The result is six Modules published by GLTN in2019.

International Research and Consulting

  • David has 20 years’ experience in international research and consulting in the area of land tenure, natural disasters and climate change. He has undertaken field activities in the Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Philippines, Lao, Cambodia, and Nepal. His research focus is on facilitating land administration systems to support climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction and resilience building in developed as well as developing countries. This work is informed by the Climate Resilient Land Administration tool that David developed for the Global Land Tool Network. This tool aims to link land and climate actions through a process of vulnerability, risk and tenure assessment supporting the development of land and climate interventions.
