  • Company Overview: This Professorship is a real honour both on a professional and personal level. This involves the provision of specialised strategic advice to the Vice-Chancellor and his Executive Council; referring on my extensive experience in major urban transformation projects, project procurement and delivery to bring significant value to the Faculty education programs. My role will provide specialised experience-based teaching encompassing guest lectures in planning, public policy and urban renewals as well as facilitating internships, and industry and government partnerships. As well, support the University’s International alliance with Kings College in London and Arizona State University.

  • Company Overview: FMA is a Global Advisory Firm which advises Governments on organisational efficiency, business systems and optimal contractual intersections both within Government Bureaucracies between Departments and the vital nexus between Government and the Private Sector. A particular focus is the successful design, implementation and delivery of Complex Major Projects. The Firm was established in 2018 by Lord Maude of Horsham, formerly the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Minister for Major Projects in the Cameron Conservative Government from 2010 to 2016.

  • Company Overview: “The Right Pitch”, is a global consultancy in complex Major Projects. The primary focus is on understanding and operating effectively within the nexus at the Top-Levels of management in both the private and public sectors. The Advisory also has strong capabilities across the entire spectrum of critical capacities, strategic and operational imperatives and most importantly, extensive, direct experience in the successful delivery and completion of complex Major Projects.
  • The Firm holds current Advisory Contracts with the Australian Commonwealth Government (Departments of Services Australia {formerly Department of Human Services}; Department of Defence and Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities) as well as The Victorian State Government (Department of Infrastructure and Office of Major Projects Victoria). These Contractual commitments include the following involvements:
  • Services Australia (Formerly Department of Human Services - DHS):
  • Currently Strategic Advisor to the Chief Executive on the design and implementation of the Major Transformation Projects Group and the Services Australia Complex Projects Portfolio Management Model;
  • 2017 – 2018: Chair and Member of the Ministerial Experts Advisory Group on Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation (WPIT), the largest Technology enabled Transformation Programme in Australian Government History;
  • 2017 – 2019: Strategic Advisor to the Secretary Department of Human Services on WPIT as well as development and implementation of the DHS Strategic Plan;
  • 2018 – 2020: Chair of Programme Control Board for WPIT (the ultimate Oversight Body for the Programme);
  • 2018 – 2019: Member of the DHS Executive Committee (Secretary and Deputies).
  • Department of Defence:
  • Currently Reviewer of the structure, thrust and efficiency of the Department of Defence Annual Report to Parliament on the Defence Major Programmes Portfolio;
  • Currently a Member of the Defence Independent Assessment Review Board which oversees the Defence Major Programmes Portfolio;
  • Currently undertaking a complete Review of the Capability, Capacities and genuine Experience in Programme/ Project Leadership held by Programme Senior Responsible Officials (SRO’s);
  • Undertaking a formal Study on the establishment of a dedicated Project Leadership Education and Capability based on the establishment by the UK Government in 2012 of the Major Project Leadership Academy at Said Oxford Business School in Oxford University.
  • Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities:
  • Reviewer of the Western Sydney Airport Development Plan and the Westerns Sydney City Deal with the New South Wales State Government.
  • Department of Infrastructure and Office of Major Projects Victoria:

  • Company Overview: UrbanGrowth NSW is a ‘purpose built’ Statutory Corporation (2013) charged with the urban transformation of Western and Metropolitan Sydney. The Corporation is charged with the delivery of the Major Urban Transformation Portfolio, which consists of the largest urban regenerations in Australia, at least two of which are of the highest potential in the world. These are the Bays Precinct, Sydney Transformation and Central to Eveleigh Rail Corridor Transformation. These transformation Projects go way beyond urban renewal and regeneration. Such undertakings as the Bays Precinct Sydney will transform Sydney Harbour and Sydney overall and drive the international competitiveness of Sydney, NSW and the Nation.

Major Projects Authority UK (MPA)

  • Company Overview: The Major Projects Authority UK was established by me, on the direction of the British Government, in November 2009 to revolutionise and generate an entirely new project leadership regime to enable successful delivery of Government funded Major Projects. At the request of the UK Government, I designed, implemented and developed the Major Projects Authority in the UK to introduce genuine Project Portfolio Management and for the first time a Control and Oversight function across all Government Projects. The Major Projects Authority UK Portfolio consisted of 212 Projects with a whole of Portfolio cost in excess of £800 billion.
  • CONCURRENT ROLE:
  • Head of Profession Project Management for the UK Government
  • Founder and Sponsor of the Major Projects Leadership Academy (MPLA) at the Saïd Oxford Business School at Oxford University (UK). This initiative was unique in 2010 and was devised to overtake the huge capability gap in the UK Civil Service and has changed remarkably the overall Project leadership performance across the British Civil Service.
  • CONCURRENT ROLE:
  • Chief Executive Universal Credit UK – (Prime Minister’s Commission)
  • Universal Credit UK is the largest single overhaul of an entire government welfare and benefit system anywhere in the world and by far the most ambitious reform in the history of the UK.
  • The Project failed January 2013 and the UK Cabinet instructed me to take over the Project, resurrect it and return it to feasibility.

  • Company Overview: As a dedicated Development Company of the Nakheel Corporation, Palm Jumeirah was charged with the largest land reclamation Project in the World. The ambition was to create a world-class, global city literally from the sea and establish Palm Jumeirah as the greatest destination in the Middle East with 6 million visitors annually and 200,000 new residents. The project cost was in excess of $US10 Billion with a development site which measured 5 kilometres by 8 kilometres.

  • Company Overview: The City of Melbourne is the Capital City of the State of Victoria. Following a raft of major interventions in 2006 and 2007, it is the most progressive Capital City Government in Australia with a “AAA” Rating and voted seven times, the Most Livable City in the World. These interventions included significant city contributions to Major Projects such as Melbourne Docklands; The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Flinders Street Restoration Project and the construction of Council House 2 located at 240 Little Collins Street in the Central Business District of Melbourne; the first six Green Star Building in the world.

  • Company Overview: The 2006 Games were the largest sporting event in Australia’s history. The Chief Operating Officer was required to take control of the transition from the ‘Bid’ to the reality of actual event delivery, and enable the successful staging of the Commonwealth Games in 2006.

  • Company Overview: The Centenary of Federation marked 100 years of one of the greatest continuous democracies in the world. It was a year-long celebration throughout the Nation, with 880 events across Australia. The centrepiece of the Programme of Celebrations was the Formal Sitting of the Parliament of Australia at the Royal Exhibition Building on 9 May 2001, 100 years since the first Parliament opened in Melbourne on 9 May 1901.
