Helicopter Administration Co-Ordinator -2/2 Roster

  • The Goodwyn Alpha is Woodside Platform located in the North West Shelf - 40 minutes helicopter ride from Karratha. The facility has a POB maximum of 137 POB and CHC our Helo provider fly's AW139 & AW189 helicopters on a daily basis for the movement of personnel.


My role is varied and includes:

  • Weights, baggage, and safety briefing of departing passengers of with the appropriate airframe for travel.
  • Regular weather updates to CHC for helo weight calculations and landing information.
  • Radio communication between deck and facility HLO.
  • Radio communications between facility and sea based support vessels to ensure that exclusion zones are maintained and vessels are clear of our landing chevron.
  • Facility to helicopter radio communications for payload and facility weather conditions at time of approach.
  • SAR details at time of departure until radio communications are established with Flight Watch or CHC.
  • Flight changes/bookings to Helicopter and Southbound fixed wing flights in association with our travel partner.
  • Maintaining POB records accurately and sending daily reports.
  • Allocating appropriately trained Emergency Response Team personnel to ERT roles and maintaining records and accurately.

I am also a Utility all rounder when not required in Heli Admin and this role includes.

  • Maintaining rooms on Level 4 accommodation - changing sheets on half changes, full changes on departures and cleaning of bathroom's, vacuuming and general overall tidiness of the rooms.
  • Completing laundry tasks - washing and folding overalls, personal clothing and linen.
  • General galley duties - working with the galley team to wash the dishes at service time, maintain the dining room and general clean up and pack down of the galley after each service.

This facility is a part of the INPEX Project and one of two facilities based off Broome, approximately 2 hours Helicopter travel to the facility which is an FPSO.

Based on the sister facility for the INPEX project the Ichthys Explore is the Central Processing Facility (CPF) for the project. I was brought across from the FPSO Ventura to undertake the Heli Admin role at short notice to cover for extended leave. This was during the commissioning of the project. The CPF had a support facility the Triumph attached to the provide additional 400 man bedding to support the commissioning process. This was a busy role with 2-4 helos most days.

I have worked for ESS Compass Group for 15 years and currently still employed with the company on a fulltime basis.

I started in Karratha at a minesite as a remote cleaner FIFO - 2 weeks on 1 week off. After 6 months I was successfully accepted to work on a construction site at Fortescue Village as a general all rounder with a roster of 4 weeks on /1 week off. In this role I set up the administration area and then become the site coordinator until my successful application into offshore work.
