My position in the ICU unit mainly centred around one on one intense patient care. There were intense documentation with included each system of the body starting with the Central Nervous System, Respiratory System, Cardiovascular
System, Gastrointestinal System, Renal System, Skin Integument, and Family Matters. We also needed to document the parameters of the Ventilator Settings,take arterial blood gasses (via way of an arterial line that was inserted by theI ntensive Care Consultant) to make sure the patient had almost near perfect
Blood gas normal parameters. The patients were all monitored very closely; they were give IV medications, Topical Medications, Nasogastric Medications around
a 24 hr clock. A part of my role in ICU, I needed to make sure my patients were sedated and pain free according to the direct orders of ICU Consultant.
A highlight of my career in ICU RDH, I had the opportunity to care for and Nurse one
of the Bali Bombing Victims whom was evacuated from Bali on a Hercules Aircraft to
Australia, the day after the bombing. This Offshore Evacuation Operation from Bali
was one of the biggest experienced in Australia and I was blessed to be a part of this.
