I’ve been a long term participant in and contributor to the open source community around WordPress which has been a catalyst for both personal and professional development This has allowed me to expand my public speaking and presenting skills, formed relationships that have turned into a career and abiding friendships, and allowed me to leave my fingerprints on WordPress, the software that runs around 43% of the web
There’s something just so uplifting about joining one’s voice with a cohort of others to make melody and harmony It’s good for the soul as well as the ears Singing brought me to Australia from NZ and honing my voice here, learning how to craft harmonies, and blending with a choir of singers has been a bedrock of skills and team development In a choir you learn to listen to everybody, hear when someone needs tuning, and coach the individuals, and then the group to become one voice
If I’m not hiding my office with a Zoom background you’ll see my ridiculous collection of tabletop games on the shelves behind my desk They are beautifully designed, both in terms of game play, and of course to look at, but exploring the worlds they contain are object lessons in strategic thinking, risk management, forward planning, and if we’re playing a co-op, collaboration and working together
I have restored, and use as my daily driver, a 1967 Riley Elf car that I imported from New Zealand… that’s just for fun
