After successfully completely my graduate nurse program under close supervision from nurse educators, I was offered a full time job in the Emergency Department. My roles and duties include

• Provided initial patient screening, evaluation, and assessment in acute care setting.
• Prioritised multiple tasks to accommodate urgent requests for assistance from the emergency department.
• Maintained open and clear communication with physicians to coordinate effective patient care.
• Provided emergency medical services to patients with serious injuries or illnesses.
• Monitored vital signs of critically ill patients in the emergency department.
• Maintained accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Assisted in training new staff members on emergency procedures and protocols.
• Provided emotional support to families during difficult times due to illness or injury of a loved one.
• Triaged and treated high-volume caseload in busy emergency room setting.
• Performed medical treatments such as administering medications, intravenous fluids, and blood transfusions.
• Coordinated patient discharge planning activities such as arranging follow-up appointments or home health services.

Throughout my graduate program, I have had the opportunity to work within two different areas of the Katherine hospital. This has included the Emergency Department and Jack Roney Ward (Adult Medical & Surgery Unit) . The skills which I have demonstrated throughout my graduate program include

• Effectively providing a safe form of patient centered care to individuals presenting to an Emergency Department with a varying level of acuity
• Demonstrating competence in providing nursing care that aligns with the requirements of AHPRA registration and the NMBA (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia) standards of practice
• Administered medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Developed treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Performed nursing assessments of new admissions and discharged patients.
• Displaying effective communication skills in everyday practice by collaborating with consumers, coworkers, and other members of a multidisciplinary team to relay information sensitively.
• Responded rapidly to urgent or emergency situations.
• Educated patients on disease prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, and self-care techniques.
• Provided cultural appropriate nursing care

I was given the opportunity to work as a community based Personal Carer whilst as a undergraduate student. My roles included:

• Provided home visits to assess patient's medical history, current condition, and prescribed treatments.
• Educated patients on proper nutrition, exercise, hygiene habits, and preventive measures for optimal health outcomes.
• Assisted individuals with daily activities such as showering, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
• Supported clients in developing independent living skills such as budgeting and meal preparation.
• Assisted patients with mobility issues by helping them transfer from bed to wheelchair or other equipment.
• Safely transferred patients to appointments, assisted in grocery shopping and ADLs outside of home

During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a Personal Carer in an aged care facility. I was able to learn all the fundamentals of nursing care. My roles included:

• Assisting residents with all cares (showering, shaving, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing/denture care and feeding)
• Taking daily progress notes
• Bed Making
• Documenting resident's intake and dietary requirements
• Responds to resident's call buzzers throughout the shift
• Collecting specimens, monitored vitals and maximized patient comfort
• Clean and sanitised rooms and equipment using aseptic technique to prevent infection and cross contamination
• Use mobility devices and equipment to carefully and transport patients
• Provided daily living activities to patients by serving meals, feeding, ambulating and turning over and positioning patients
• Attended to end of life cares.
