  • Part-time role, coordinating Australia's largest industry association representing green coffee traders, roasters, espresso machine importers, packaging manufacturers, sustainability and traceability focussed companies, as well as logistics entities (warehousing and customs).
  • ACTA organises 5-6 networking events around the country inviting leading industry speakers to present on a range of topics, as well as providing a platform for members to address their concerns before national bodies (eg DAFF or Customs) as 'a single voice'. All matters are channelled directly via the Secretary.
  • Since taking on the Secretarial role in Q1'22, ACTA has expanded its membership, developing significantly closing ties with local Consulates as well as other coffee related industry associations, achieving an improved financial result versus the prior year.

Achievements :

  • Identified a new commercial plan for MAERK's refrigerated ( reefer ) cargo volumes ex-NE & SE Asia, focussing on growth to markets where overall yield and profitability would be enhanced over 2022. Target market growth of 5%+ per group trade.
  • Led a quarterly 'business plan' aimed at developing a higher participation in the best paying segments ( by shipper, commodity and destination market ). Target additional yields of usd 500+ per container.
  • Coordinated with MAERSK's head office in Copenhagen a strategic review of current service structures ( preferred port calls, capacity and frequency ) from Oceania to NE/SE Asia, aimed at minimising costs whilst retaining market shares.

Achievements:

  • Managed the annual rate negotiations ex-Australia/New Zealand, with average increases for long term deals of usd 150-usd 300/container in key market segments; wine, meat & foodstuffs
  • Through statistical analysis identified potential new business and segments resulting in, protection of Hamburg Sud's leading market shares to the USA ( 50% to West Coast North America WCNA and 33% to East Coast North America ECNA )
  • Developed and launched the "Maximum Contribution Margin Local Office Allocation (MCLA) process", a mechanism to safeguard capacity for higher paying cargo opportunities ( average yield improvement range usd 350-500/container ).
  • Key entry point on all reviews with the Hamburg HQ on how to maximise the returns on services ex-Oceania; one example the change from a '2 loop' to single loop product between Oceania and WCNA, saving in excess of usd 5 MIO/annum.
  • Post the MAERSK takeover in 2017, drove the discussions with Copenhagen to ensure Hamburg Sud's unique brand identity ( specific shipper agreements and market profile ) was protected.
  • Week by week decision making on agreed key priorities when 'bottle necks' occurred ( space or equipment supply ) in order to retain important relationships.
