Having worked at Newport for the last 38 years, firstly as a coppersmith then a shunter in 2001 progressing to lead shunter in 2003 trained by RTI with Russell Frew.

in the last 7to 8 years the role has also incorporated yard master in the duties. most recently 5 years ago i have become trained to drive a Y class locomotive within Newport station limits. i work with a team of shunters/drivers which i get along well with. Our team works closely with the v/line cab committee, which we get along with quite good. Recently i was trained in the 26L brake operations

  • Moved freight cars in accordance with the railway's switching plan, using hand signals or radios to communicate with other crew members.
