During the anaesthetic training programme I have been involved in the education of medical students from the University of Queensland as well as Interns, Residents and Anaesthetic registrars. Leadership is an increasingly important attribute of the Anaesthetic Specialist. During Medical School I was elected Captain of the Lacrosse team and subsequently President of the Lacrosse Club, the 2nd largest sports team at the medical school. I discovered the challenges and honours of leadership and was rewarded Sporting Colours for my role as a leader within sport. In my foundation year I was nominated to represent a group of junior doctors in negotiations with an NHS Trust over unsafe working conditions and was awarded a certificate of merit for the work I did to improve working conditions for foundation doctors within the surgical department.
