REFERENCE LETTER :

PETE WILLIAMS (DELOITTE)

BUSHFIRE RECOVERY

I met Dwayne shortly after the Black Summer fires. Dwayne had identified that there were many people in remote areas in the north east of Victoria that had lost their homes and their water infrastructure. Replacing their water tanks and ensuring there was a way to have catchment was the first step in people being able to move back to their properties and start thinking about rebuilding.

Dwayne had coordinated a group of plumbers, a tank supplier and $50,000 in plumbing supplies from the Reece Foundation. My team from Deloitte teamed with Dwayne and his team, Anglicare and the Towong Shire to purchase and install water tanks on 30 properties in the North East.

On completion we were certain that many people would be in a similar situation in East Gippsland00. Dwayne organised the appropriate permissions, as this was at the height of Covid, and spent days visiting fire affected people across East Gippsland.

We were able to obtain further funding from Anglicare, Givit, Bushfire Recovery Victoria and private donors to provide water tanks and infrastructure to a further 45 households.

Since that time Dwayne has developed a range of innovative fire protection systems and has developed an amazing level of knowledge around fire retardants.

Dwayne has the ability to quickly create rapport and build relationships. He is a pragmatic problem solver both in terms of solving issues that arise day to day as well as being able to design and prototype unique solutions that are potentially game changing, for example the fire smart tank. He is a quick learner and a good listener which he demonstrated when building his capacity to work with layers of bureaucracy and governance arises in disaster recovery.

Working with Dwayne on what became Mission Rainwater was a career highlight for me in terms of the impact it made and how quickly it was executed.

Regards

Peter Williams
