- After deciding to travel to Australia in September of 2023 I wanted to broaden my horizons and venture into a new line of work, something that I had no experience of doing back home in the United Kingdom. This led to me taking the role of Harvest Operator in Rombola Family Farm in Mataranka. The job itself involved driving tractors as part of the picking team,alongside this other tasks on the farm involved cleaning and sanitising the tractors, pre-cutting the fruit ready for the pickers and plastic rolling of previous crops which needed removing. Living in the outback working up to 12 hours a day 6 days each week helped develop my discipline and allowed me to achieve a good structure in both my life and my work. The skills developed on the farm such as mental toughness and adapting to a new situation will help me massively in whichever job I hope to find in the future.

- Working at the Dinorben Arms allowed me to experience a fast-paced working environment. My role as part of the front of house team involved preparing drinks as a barman and running food from the kitchen to the diners. Just like working in retail, hospitality develops your customer service skills as you are in constant communication with customers. Whether I was pouring drinks or talking food out to customers I made sure to make them feel welcomed and relaxed to make sure their experience of dining with us was as enjoyable as possible. Working in the high-pressure environment of a kitchen helped me develop my communication and concentration skills as there was a number of orders, tables and customers to remember about.

- My Role was first to collect cardboard and help stack selves and to maintain them to look tidy and clean. But after a few weeks working in the store, I was offered the chance to work on the click and collect department. My role as a clicker meant I oversaw taking the shopping out to the customers. From this I was trusted to find substitutes for missing items and to conduct the challenge 25 certificate. This role helped me improve my time management skills and showed my flexibility and dedication to the role as my hours would change on a daily basis as I always covered the last order of the day this meant I could be working until 6pm or 11am in the morning it all depended on how many orders there would be that day. This job was also during the first lockdown, and I had to deal with all those problems that involved asking customers to wear masks and to follow the social distancing and a one way system inside the store.
