Passionate and dedicated individual with a lifelong commitment to helping others, inspired by my own experiences growing up as a child who needed extra assistance. From a young age, I have been determined to give back to the community that supported me, devoting my life to helping children overcome challenges and reach their full potential. My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy, fields where I can make a meaningful impact on children's lives. As the eldest child in my family, I have had the unique opportunity to witness my younger brother and sister grow and mature in distinct ways. Observing how their different genders influenced their development and maturity at various stages has deepened my understanding of the diverse needs and behaviors of children. This experience has taught me adaptability, patience, and an appreciation for the individuality of each child. Additionally, this year, I had the privilege of being a buddy to a year 7, a role that allowed me to directly support a younger student transitioning into a new and sometimes intimidating environment. My buddy was initially very shy and hesitant to engage with her peers. Through patience, compassion, and consistent encouragement, I helped her gradually feel comfortable in her new surroundings. Over time, I watched her confidence grow, and she began to socialize more openly and express herself with greater ease. These experiences have reinforced my passion for helping children overcome barriers and develop skills to thrive, further motivating me to pursue a career in Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy, where I can make a meaningful and lasting impact on young lives.
This year I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a 10-day touch football tour in Fiji, where our team worked with children across multiple schools. I taught:
Helping them develop a love for sport in a context with limited opportunities and resources to participate in such activities. Additionally, I supported Fijian children with their English vocabulary, spelling, and pronunciation, assisting them in developing language skills different from their first language. These experiences have strengthened my passion for working with children who need extra assistance and fostering their growth in both academic and personal development.
