• Assisted with every day activities for residents, providing a chance for practising good communication and confidence building as an introduction into my nursing career

• First rotation on a spinal unit working with people who have spinal cord injuries, second rotation on a renal ward working with renal transplant patients providing pre and post-operative care and with those on dialysis
• Have had the opportunity to develop my nursing skills in ward nursing as I continued to learn responsibility and independence in my nursing

Other responsibilities throughout my graduate year:

Care Plans, Patient Assessment, Pain Assessment and Management, ECG’s, Safe delivery of Intravenous Medications, Reflective Practise meetings/programs, Stoma Management, Compression Bandaging, Wound Care, Liaising with Allied Health in regards to patient care and outcomes, Nephrostomy and Drain Tube Care, Indwelling and Intermittent Catheters, Diabetes Management, Medication Management, MET call involvement

• Monitored vital signs, administered injections, and provided assistance with medical procedures
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
• Provided post-operative care to patients who had a variety of procedures

• Assisted in admitting and discharging patients, taking into account any specific medications, health conditions, and alerting the theatre team if needed
• Pre- and post-operative care for all patients
• Provided education to families regarding post-operative instructions before discharge from hospital setting
• I worked with my team to achieve the goal of our duty of care

• Completed a novice training program in scrub/scout theatre nursing, specializing in General surgery
• Assisted with the passing of instruments, monitoring the patient's condition while sedated, assisted wherever the surgeon required, and took part in the safe practice of procedures such as 'time out'—a time to stop and ensure we had the correct patient and the correct surgical procedure, advocating for the patient and ensuring optimum care
• Assisted with preparation of supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures as necessary
• Ensured appropriate positioning of patients on operating table prior to surgery
• Performed nursing tasks to deliver high level of care and comply with procedures and regulations
• Maintained a sterile environment in the operating room by adhering to aseptic techniques

• Have been lucky enough to return to Day Procedure Unit and continued to work with my team to provide patients with the best possible recovery post-surgical procedures
