As a second year student studying Biological Science at UWA, I have engaged in a wide variety of both volunteer and paid positions that have allowed me to experience fieldwork, lab work, data entry and management, alongside an ability to work within varying team sizes. My most recent work with Care for Hedland, as their evening coordinator allowed me to experience a mixture of flatback turtle tagging and monitoring, as well as nest marking and excavations. I worked in coordinating volunteers and built my people management skills through a guided turtle tours and evening monitoring surveys. My work at CSIRO has given me an understanding of working within a professional setting where I was given the ability to make decisions on the progression and outcome of my project analyzing the movement and feeding patterns of sea cucumbers in Ningaloo. My volunteer work down in Albany with the Little White Whale Project and at Barrow Island working on the Flatback Turtle Tagging and Monitoring program, has allowed me to experience fieldwork and work within teams on data collection and fieldwork strategies. I have also worked in leadership roles onboard the STS Leeuwin II where I managed and led a team of trainees for week long voyages at sea, alongside working aboard a smaller vessel running guided sea lion and marine park tours with Jurien Bay Oceanic.
