  • Replaced defective parts or components with new or reconditioned parts.
  • Conducted periodic tests of the safety systems of locomotives.
  • Performed routine maintenance on all types of railway rolling stock.

employed at the progress rail facility, Kooragang, as a tradesmen fitter machinist. In this role I am required to to carry out both major mechanical and minor Electrical repairs. these tasks are:

- Undertake scheduled servicing on 81, 82, 90, and TT class locomotives

- Undertake scheduled component change outs in CCO and ICC programs

- Live DIesel engine diagnoses and repair, Replacing major Emd Equipment such as Engines, Turbos, Camshafts, Power assemblies.

- Repair and replace Generalized locomotive Equipment, such as carbody and bogie equipment where required i.e. compressors, draft gear, Traction motors.

- Perform minor Electrical troubleshooting and component replacement.

- Perform on the go maintenance and repairs within a live running environment at customer facilities and infield work.

- Fault find and repair, pneumatic brake circuits, these include Fastbrakeand 30cw.

- Operate rolling stock withing the confines of the working yard where required.

- Read and identify parts and dimensions from technical drawings and service manuals.

- Complete appropriate recordings of maintenance repairs.

Prior to my commencement withing the 5000/6000 class overhaul i worked at the progress rail cardiff facility in the Traction motor Overhaul shop, the following tasks were completed.

  • Disassemble and clean traction motors in accordance to a scheduled overhaul or component failure.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to identify out of tolerance components. (external & internal micrometers, feeler gauges, dial bore gauges, thread gauges, bore spiders).
  • Machine and undercut Armature commutators using basic lathe processes.
  • Balance rotating equipment.
  • Traction motor re-assembly using precision fitting equipment such as bearing heaters, hydraulic press, dial indicators.
