Emily Fernandez

Creative and community minded professional with a background in customer relations, sales, and community organization. As an independent artist, I bring a unique perspective to problem-solving and possess a keen eye for detail. My additional experience in university tutoring has honed my ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible and relatable manner. As a STEM Club President and University Honour Society member, I have demonstrated my leadership abilities and a commitment to excellence. I am determined, results-driven, and thrive both independently and as part of a team to achieve outcomes.

• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Club President - Broward College: As the STEM Club President, I demonstrated strong leadership and a passion for sustainability through the planning and execution of sustainable markets and events. I effectively managed vendors and stakeholders, hosted learning and gardening sessions involving the planting of endangered natives and plants for endangered insects, and facilitated regular meetings with club advisors and students. I was additionally responsible for managing the club’s social media accounts and coordinated the collective effort to build a greenhouse on campus, including sourcing materials and maintaining inventory. Through these efforts, I made a positive impact on the university community and the environment by promoting sustainable practices and preserving biodiversity. Prior to this, I was club secretary, where I was responsible for taking minutes at meetings, keeping logs of all decisions and action items, and relaying information to members and stakeholders.
• National Society of Leadership and Success - Broward College: The NSLS is the nation’s largest leadership honour society. Students are selected by their university for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction.
• Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society - Broward College: Phi Theta Kappa is a selective honour society whose mission is to recognize high academic achievement of university students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.

• Volunteer at Marlivale Farm - Nimbin Valley, NSW: During my time at Marlivale Farm, I undertook a diverse range of responsibilities. These included tasks such as sorting and packaging produce up to standard to be sold through timely online orders and in-person farmer's markets. I contributed to the farm’s infrastructure by building and restoring fences and irrigation systems that have been damaged by flooding. Additionally, I performed general farm duties such as taking care of livestock. This experience not only honed my agricultural skills but allowed me to actively engage in various facets of farming, fostering a deep appreciation for the farming industry’s hard work and dedication.
• Volunteer at Ceres Urban Farm - Melbourne, VIC: As a volunteer at Ceres Environmental Park, I have gained valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of farming operations. My role involves performing manual labor and engaging in farm work, including harvesting crops, weeding, tilling soil, building structures, and planting. I consistently exceed expectations and adhere to high standards, diligently completing tasks under the guidance of experienced farmers. This experience has allowed me to develop a solid foundation of sustainable and organic farming practices, acquiring knowledge that promotes environmental responsibility and resource conservation. Working in the field, I’ve become proficient in utilizing a wide range of farm tools, enhancing my practical skills and adaptability. In a collaborative group setting, I work closely with a team of dedicated individuals to accomplish shared objectives and contribute to the smooth operation of the farm.
