I am pleased to submit my application for the role of Assistant Watchhouse Officer with the Queensland Police Service. Becoming a part of QPS has been a long-standing goal of mine, and I am strongly motivated by the opportunity to contribute to public safety and uphold community values. I have previously applied for a QPS role and successfully completed both the panel interview and medical clearance processes, demonstrating my preparedness for the responsibilities and standards required within the Service. With a background in customer service, pharmacy support, and administrative duties, I bring a strong foundation in communication, procedure adherence, and working effectively with diverse and sometimes vulnerable individuals. I am committed to delivering a professional standard of care, safety, and compliance, which I believe aligns strongly with the responsibilities of this role.
Perform Watchhouse functions relevant to the administration, supervision and monitoring of persons in custody and visitors to the Watchhouse.
In both my current customer service role and my previous pharmacy experience, I have dealt directly with the public, including individuals under stress or in challenging situations. I have regularly managed interactions with customers and In these moments, I remained calm, assessed risk quickly, and applied communication strategies to de-escalate tension. These skills will translate effectively into the Watchhouse environment, where safety, composure, and good judgment are critical.
Prepare and maintain prisoner files and records.
I have maintained accurate records as part of my pharmacy duties, including prescription tracking and medication logs, which required strict attention to detail and legal compliance. In my current admin role, I continue to handle sensitive data and maintain systems to ensure information is current and securely stored. I understand the importance of record integrity in a law enforcement context and am confident in my ability to meet this standard.
Operate and monitor electronic surveillance and movement control systems in accordance with established procedures.
I have previous experience using surveillance systems to monitor footage, particularly in settings where theft and safety were concerns. This involved active monitoring and reviewing of footage to support operational decision-making and ensure a safe environment.
Maintain Watchhouse records in line with Queensland Police Service (QPS) policy and procedure.
In previous roles, I adhered to established protocols and documentation standards, especially within pharmacy regulations. I understand the need for strict compliance with policies when dealing with sensitive matters such as detainee welfare, and would uphold QPS requirements with diligence and professionalism.
Assist in the processing of persons received into custody in line with QPS policy and procedures.
My experience working with people under stress has equipped me with empathy and the ability to manage sensitive interactions respectfully. I am committed to treating all people fairly and with dignity, in line with QPS values.
Supervise and provide for the welfare, comfort and security of prisoners.
My previous roles have required me to balance empathy with responsibility, whether supervising individuals picking up prescriptions or managing difficult customers. I recognise the importance of respecting human rights while ensuring the safety and security of others and would carry this balance into the Watchhouse setting.
Prepare and maintain records of prisoner’s health requirements; monitor the medical needs of prisoners and arrange an appropriate level of medical assistance as required.
In pharmacy, I was responsible for handling medication, verifying prescriptions, and identifying when a patient needed further health support. I understand the importance of monitoring physical and mental health and the procedures for escalating concerns to professional support when necessary.
Assist senior staff with issues impacting on the overall operational management of the Watchhouse.
I am a reliable and collaborative team member. I consistently support senior staff and colleagues by proactively identifying issues and responding to tasks without delay. Whether managing inventory, resolving customer complaints, or filling procedural gaps, I act with integrity, accountability, and initiative.
