I have been a qualified children's nurse for 9 years and am passionate about the care I give. I enjoy working at a fast pace and being busy, therefore will look to help others where possible and where needed. I am able to work as part of the multidisciplinary team and feel it is important to communicate effectively with health professionals for a timely and smooth admission and discharge. When working on the ward i was really able to implement 'child centred and family centred care', i am quite passionate about using these models to care for my patients as feel it provides a better care experience for the patient and family. My main goal when transferring to the ward was to complete the high dependancy course. I completed this course through bristol royal hospital for children in march 2021. Since completing the course I often found myself working in the HDU, often looking after up to x3 patients requiring closing monitoring and nursing care. I enjoyed this type of nursing as it kept me busy and was continuously expanding my knowledge. During my time I was able to improve my leadership skills. I did this by taking charge of shifts and working alongside nursing students. I received positive feedback from work colleagues and students, which made me feel more confident with my leadership skills. Over the past two years have been working on the casual pool at Sydney Children’s Hospital, this has been working well for me as I embrace and enjoy change, working on the casual pool means I can work in a variety of areas, constantly challenging myself. I can easily adapt my skills in order to work well in the given area. Throughout my nursing career i have always worked in demanding and stressful environments. This has allowed me to develop effective and excellent time management skills. I feel it is not only important to manage your own tasks but to also be aware of your colleagues around you, ensuring that help is given where needed. Since resisting in Australia I have also completed two rural contracts, one in Alice springs and another in Canberra. This has allowed me to learn more in depth about new cultures and nursing in rural Australia. I am keen to continue to have new experiences within my nursing role and am excited for new opportunities.
