My name is Emma Henley and I currently study a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at JCU in Townsville. I have a passion for the outdoors, learning new skills and helping people. I have varied experience in retail pharmacy and as a medical student.
I began working at DDS when I was 14 years old and ceased part-time work in 2022 when I moved to Townsville to continue my studies. My role at the pharmacy began with customer service, register and cash handling, answering the phone as well as cleaning and stocking shelves. As I progressed, my job role expanded to include S2 and S3 drug handling, dispensing and medication delivery.
A a second year medical student, I completed a placement at Malanda Medical Care as part of my JCU medical course requirements. I thoroughly enjoyed the three weeks I spent at this medical centre, seeing and treating patients within my scope of practice. During my time at the clinic, I was fortunate to gain independent clinical experience in patient communication, vital signs recording, cleaning and dressing wounds, suturing and diabetic support. I was also able to observe several mental health appointment which broadened my clinical understanding of this topic.
