Projects

Effect of Aqueous Extract of African Eggplant (Solanum indicum) Fruits on Aluminium Chloride-Induced Neurotoxicity in Drosophila melanogaster, This research investigated the effect of aqueous extract of African eggplant (Solanum indicum) fruits on aluminium chloride-induced neurotoxicity in Drosophila melanogaster. The study was designed to evaluate the potential neuroprotective properties of Solanum indicum by assessing behavioral responses, survival rate, and biochemical markers in fruit flies exposed to aluminium chloride, a known neurotoxicant. The experimental groups included untreated controls, aluminium chloride-exposed flies, and flies treated with aluminium chloride in combination with varying concentrations of the Solanum indicum extract. Parameters such as locomotor activity, lifespan, and oxidative stress markers were monitored to determine the extract's efficacy., 09/01/23, 05/01/24, The findings revealed that administration of the African eggplant extract significantly mitigated the toxic effects of aluminium chloride, as evidenced by improved locomotor performance, higher survival rates, and reduced oxidative stress levels compared to the untreated neurotoxic group. The results strongly suggest that Solanum indicum possesses antioxidant and neuroprotective properties that can counteract aluminium-induced neurodegeneration. This project not only demonstrated the therapeutic potential of a locally available plant but also underscored the importance of exploring natural products as cost-effective alternatives in the management of neurodegenerative disorders.
