My time at Coles mainly consisted of working customer service as a cashier but also assisting customers in self-checkout. In doing so, i gained:
• Extensive knowledge on how to use a cash register computer system including fixing any issues with such technology
• How to handle currency and credit transactions quickly and accurately
• Monitored cash drawers in multiple checkout stations and maintained adequate cash supply
• Provided excellent customer care by responding to requests, assisting with product selection and handling ordering functions
Moreover, as Coles is a large corporation, there were well-established performance benchmarks and procedures which taught me:
• How to maintain high standards of customer service during high-volume, fast-paced operations
• Discipline and compliance with workplace regulations
• How to resolve disputes with coworkers and customer complaints professionally
• How to act in the case of emergencies
Along with customer service I also occasionally stacked shelves, giving me a basic understanding on the logistics of retail stores and the ability to undergo physically demanding tasks
• Placing items to correct shelf locations and arranged displays to promote sales
• Managed timely and effective replacement of damaged or missing products.
• Maintained cleanliness and efficiency in the kitchen by washing dishes and ensuring all equipment met hygiene standards
• Assisted in coordinating and managing deliveries, ensuring supplies were received, organised, and properly stored
• Prepared and processed food supplies to support kitchen operations
• Operated recycling machinery to manage waste and uphold sustainability practices
• Worked in a fast-paced environment, contributing to smooth kitchen workflow and overall restaurant efficiency
