As a Design and Drafting Specialist for mine camp projects, I was responsible for creating detailed drawings, blueprints, and site layout plans for camp facilities, including dormitories, kitchens, and recreational areas. I collaborated closely with subcontractors to integrate engineering components, such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, into the design and construction process. Ensuring regulatory compliance with local, regional, and national construction codes and standards was a critical aspect of my role. I provided technical support and troubleshooting to project management teams, and coordinated and communicated with stakeholders, maintaining detailed records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
In this position I was tasked with maintaining the diesel generators and desalination machines for a roadhouse. I would conduct daily inspections of the machines, perform weekly services of the machines and conduct generator change overs bi-weekly. The rest of my time would be spent conducting general maintenance to the machines, such part replacements and maintenance of the roadhouse, motel and service station on the property. I would conduct repairs to the pluming, electrical systems, appliances such as coffee machines, A/C units etc and kitchen equipment.
In this position I helped with the construction of a carpark by reviewing drawings, digging trenches, laying conduit and acting as a spotter for digger operators. I also operated Loaders and skidsteers for use in sight clean up.
While working for Winthrop I was part of a project constructing a Microsoft data centre. My position was focused on multiple aspects of the construction, including the the air handling units, sprinkler systems and the HVAC systems. Part of my role was to create technical submittals to put forward specifications and any relevant design information for the clients approval, once equipment was approved I would manage the subcontractors by liaising with there on site team to discuss installation schedules and methods to ensure that equipment was brought in and installed within the projects timeline. I held weekly meetings with the subcontractor's engineers, our own lead engineers and client representatives to discuss progress and possible design changes. I also conducted inspections on all equipment and created reports on these which were uploaded along with other relevant documents to a server for the clients.
In this position I checked in with customers during meals to check orders were received correctly and met guests' expectations. I processed cash and card payments promptly, minimizing customer waiting times and enabling swift table turnarounds. I warmly greeted guests upon arrival to create welcoming atmosphere. I provided friendly, courteous service, maximizing positive customer satisfaction ratings. I appointed the responsibility of training new staff and managing staff productivity.
In this position I had to understand and interpreted project and process documentation including layout drawings, electrical diagrams and Component diagrams. I gained valuable insight into building ventilation by shadowing Senior Engineer for 6 weeks. I completed quality assurance testing on air handling units, while also tracking installation of all of the air handling units on site. I was tasked with leading other interns by teaching them how to preform tasks and to divide up tasks for them to complete.
