  • Work with unaccompanied minors seeking asylum in Australia (clients had travelled to Australia alone by boat to seek asylum, spent time on Christmas Island and other detention centres, then granted the right to community detention) in a community detention house with 24 hour supervised care
  • Create care and case management plans with clients to address educational, social, emotional, physical and mental health needs
  • Keep up to date with detailed daily case notes

  • Act as an appropriate role model for people I was supporting

  • Research and report on irregular migration and displacement in the Asia-Pacific region including Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia
  • Research undertaken informed policy areas (and the government via the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship) to assist in addressing people smuggling and irregular migration.

Immigration Boat Task Force Entry Interviewer

  • Conduct first formal interview with people who arrive by boat to Christmas Island with the purpose to determine a person's identity, reasons for arrival and whether a person will be 'screened in' to the refugee status assessment (RSA) stage of the immigration process.

Refugee Status Assessment Assistant Team Leader

  • Organise interviews for protection visa applicants in detention; work with DIAC RSA case officers, immigration agents, interpreters, SERCO (detention service provider) officers and clients.

Literacy Coordinator, Special Programs for Youth

  • Engage young people who are under the guardianship of the Minister or justice orders, in an intensive one-on-one literacy program
  • Work with young people of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island Background
