• Performed and validated Hepatitis viruses, Covid-19 virus and HIV serology Ag and Ab based assays including several general serology tests assays (such as Syphillis, Dengue, CMV, HSV 1 & 2, BK virus etc.)
• Performed and validated Hepatitis C & B qualitative & quantitative assays by PCR using the Roche Ampliprep, Taqman and Amplicor systems
• Performed, detected and analysed different Hepatitis C genotypes
• Performed, validated routine and more complex microbiology procedures with emphasis on Nucleic Acid detection tests
• Helped develop the preliminary MRSA assay
• Developed and validated the BK virus quantitative assay of the Department, which is now being used routinely
• Developed and performed the first genotyping of BK virus detected from renal transplant patients in Sydney, which was presented at the Australian Society for Microbiology annual conference.

• Data base receipt, storage, query of specimens, including patient details and results
• Proper maintenance, storage, and use of consumables, reagents, and equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory procedures.

• Processing and analysis of forensic samples to reduce the backlog of criminal cases.

Responsibilities

• Plate reading, analysis and identification of pathogenic microorganisms obtained from human clinical samples using morphological, biochemical and serological tests and commercial ID kits
• Entry of results and release using the company’s LIS data base system
• Microscopic examination of Oocytes, cysts and parasites (OCP) in stool samples
• Gram stain preparation and analysis; antibiotic and sensitivity preparation, testing and interpretation
• Setting up stool, urine and swab specimens

Responsibilities

• Coordinate two units of studies in Microbiology and Biotechnology with lecture and practical components for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Prepare and deliver lectures, supervise and run tutorial and practical laboratory classes
