Evert Genis

Hyden,Australia

Summary

I’m working full time as the Farm Manager on a mixed crop and livestock farm just outside Hyden, WA. The farm consists of approx. 4000ha of crop and 2000 sheep. Before moving to Australia I worked full time as the farm foreman on a multi-function farm-business, consisting of a transportation business (Scania trucks), harvesting contractor, crocodile farm and guest house. I manage daily activities, oversee operations of harvesting between 8,000 to 10,000 ha a season with 8x harvesters, and lead a team of 10 employees. I have previously worked full time managing our agricultural and cattle family farm of 1200 ha. Following completion of my Secondary Education diploma, I travelled to the USA to further expand and develop my skills and knowledge on agricultural farming operations. I primarily worked as a Harvester, Crop Inspector and General Farm Hand for periods of 6-8 months per placement. This international opportunity broadened my horizons and advanced my drive to manage a farm into a successful business. I have managed work scopes from start to finish, including market assessment, scheduling and budgeting, client liaison, and supervision of the ongoing work to deliver the harvest. I work to find solutions and improvements. Current and previous farm owners including in the USA have identified both my technical and soft skills and abilities, noting that I am a fast learner, hard worker, reliable person, good communicator and disciplined with my time management. I am also someone who gets the job done well, and I strive for excellence in everything I do, while always keeping the safety of my colleagues and myself my main priority. I was therefore requested to return for another placement and was offered all expenses paid travel, fully supported by the company. I am quick and efficient about my work. I have a wide range of skills above and beyond farming as I approach problems in a practical manner. I have experience working in a team environment and independently, consistently working with respect and integrity. I take initiative and enjoy challenging work scopes. I work to contribute to the future growth of the farm and I know I’ll be an asset to it as a business. I have taken on mentorship roles training new staff, while also actively seeking mentorship from senior personnel for my own continuous development. Any training necessary to further my skills for the job/position, I am eager to fulfill.
