The consult also maps notable behaviours and patterns of behaviour, what strategies have worked and strategies that the Psychologist can impart and share with care workers to assist them incorporate towards the healing journey of the young person in identifying their triggers and providing self-care strategies. Information gleaned within the cultural consult is compiled by the Aboriginal Practice Leader and filed by the Psychologist on the young persons file.

One Communities-One Team Excellence Awards Department of Communities

I won the Individual Excellence Award in 2023, for the Cultural Training Package, I compiled and facilitate, to all staff under the Department of Communities portfolio of Residential Care Services, Secure Care and Disability Justice Service.. The aim of the cultural training package is to provide staff with a better understanding of the Stolen Generation and purpose to provide in-depth facts and truthtelling of the history, and how that has impacted the many lives of Indigenous people 40-50 years ago and how it still impacts our children today, their behaviours today are resemblance of the systemic trauma that has been inflicted upon their families for generations and now them as young individuals. The purpose is to provide staff a better understanding of the trauma families have faced and how we can influence better changed and a different mindset, within our organisation of the way we deal with our Indigenous young people and adults within our residential group homes, supported independant living homes and work areas.
