JNB building is a renovation building company. I contracted to this firm up until leaving New Zealand. I was employed as a leading hand carpenter and finisher. various construction tasks from Concrete form work, post and piling of houses, timber frame work, cladding joinery install, finishing and cabinetry work etc.
Esc Outdoor design. Here I took on the role as leading hand carpenter and project manager, running a team of 5-6 people from apprentices to skilled trades people. Organising of multiple jobsite's, safety meetings and client and architect interactions, ordering of materials and invoicing of completed jobs. Overseeing of all other subcontractors, including but not limited to digger and heavy machinery operators, Pool builders and concrete layers, electricians and plumbers etc.
Habitat building was an architectural renovation company focused on high end, full and partial renovations for villa and bungalow style houses. Worked in a 4 person team and over my time there we completed two major renovations. all manor of construction work, from concrete form work and steel tying, timber frame, stair building, cladding and installation of joinery's.
Wood workshop and fit-out work. Calavera is a high end specialist construction and fit-out company focused within the arts department in Auckland. Building display cases, assisting artists sculptural constructions and fit out of gallery shows for the likes of Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland National Museum, Motat Transport etc. My role was within the small 3 person company was working working in the cabinetry shop on various machinery including table and band saws and onsite construction work. The role required a high level of professionalism and a very high level of craftsmanship and detail. The onsite work was also often within the public arena so safety and awareness were top priority also.
Landscaping work for a small architectural landscape design and build company. Working on jobs varying from deck and pergola builds to lawn placement and retaining wall/rock feature work and planting of gardens
Contract roofing work with a asphalt and cedar shingle company. New roofs, re roofs and repair work under taken. the company also had a contract with heritage New Zealand so on several occasions working on heritage sights around the country.
Casual Employment out of high school and throughout university studies. We specialised in concrete and clay roof tiling. I was employed as a labourer with tasks varying from loading up the roof with tiles, rubbish clean up and removal, mixing concrete for beading of ridges and laying of tiles on the roof.
Alongside my carpentry career i also have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts (BOFA). During my time at art school i completed for my final project, a year long self guided project where I constructed by hand a 15 foot Canadian style canoe out cedar and various hardwood timbers. This was driven by a passion for the outdoors and the environment I grew up in. This project not only encompassed my passion for the outdoors but also helped influence the direction of my career towards carpentry and wood work. Giving me an edge when it comes to aesthetically pleasing structures and their and design.
