Assisted in the flood recovery project at the Merri-bek storage facility.

Key responsibilities included:

· Decanting, cleaning and checking for signs of mould or damage on flood-affected material from several collections (including History and Technology, First Peoples, Geology and Palaeontology)

· Sorting Palaeontology material including microfossils and macrofossils as part of an online registration process via the EMu platform/database

· Photographing and updating of location information in pre-existing or newly registered Palaeontology material using MVwise

· Disinfecting, labelling and packaging non-flood-affected objects destined for offsite storage

Vertebrate Collection Management Volunteer

Key responsibilities included:

· Sorting newly collected material (discarding badly damaged specimens and assigning preparation method to accepted specimens based on their condition and/or collection needs (fluid/skeleton/skin etc.))

· Preparing specimens for long-term storage (e.g. subsampling wet specimens and tagging or bone-numbering (or both) dry specimens)

· Relocating specimens (e.g. rehousing wet specimens and updating location and container information)

· Photographing specimens (regular and macro photography using CamLift)
