  • Demonstrated during night shift by preparing comprehensive theatre paper work for a patient going for surgery, documenting in progress notes and giving a clear and thorough handover which was well-received by the morning shift.
  • Demonstrated by effectively communicating a treatment plan to a worried patient going for a complex surgery the next morning, ensuring that they understood what was required of them, including the need to fast and shower early, and answering all their concerns with empathy.

This involved facilitating a meeting away from the patient, actively listening and acknowledging each nurse as they expressed their concerns and guiding them towards finding a common ground by suggesting that we review the current policy, which then led to an agreement and resolved the conflict.

  • Demonstrated by assisting a colleague assess, safely transfer and seek medical treatment for her patient who had had a fall, which led to timely and effective patient care.
