Work History

Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

Intertek
Eliwana , Western Australia
07.2024 - Current
  • Measured moisture content of iron ore samples using balances and IR ovens.
  • Determined particle size distribution of iron ore samples using balances and sieve analysis.
  • Efficiently prepared iron ore samples by drying, crushing, milling, weighing and fusing ready for X-Ray Fluorescence and Thermal Gravitational Analysis.
  • Measured the preliminary concentration of elements present in the ore samples using X-Ray Fluorescence utalising software such as Nova and Lims.
  • Collate data from Thermal Gravitational Analysis and X-Ray Fluorescence to determine the concentration of elements in the ore sample ready to report to the client.
  • Measured standards and calibrated equipment to guarantee operational accuracy and adherence to tolerances.
  • As the elected health and safety representative I ensured that myself and the team maintained a safe, clean laboratory adhering to mine standards by monitoring compliance, conducting workplace inspections, reviewing incidences and represented workers in health and safety concerns

Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

First Quantum Minerals
Ravensthorpe, Western Australia
03.2024 - 04.2024
  • Routinely prepared solid, liquid and slurry samples from raw materials from each step of the nickel extraction process using overhead mixers and gravity, Büchner and pressure filtration.
  • Identified and measured the concentration of elements in solid and liquid samples using X-Ray Fluorescence, Induced Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry and Elemental Analysis and checked against quality control standards.
  • Measured the pH, density, oxidation reduction potential, particle size and the free acid and chloride in the liquid samples using pH meters, digital density meters, ORP meters, laser diffraction and titrotherms respectively.
  • Ran independent experiments for ad hoc samples such as leaching tests, purity tests, titrations and more when required from the nickel mine.
  • Kept a clean, safe laboratory and operated, maintained and calibrated lab equipment, consistently meeting accuracy and schedule targets.
  • Left this role due to the mine going into care and maintenance.

Warehouse Officer

First Quantum Minerals
Ravensthorpe, Western Australia
03.2023 - 02.2024
  • Accurately located, receipted and inputted stock into the system utilising pronto software.
  • Gained experience unloading and loading trucks with large, heavy stock utilising forklifts of various maximum lift capacities and high reach forklifts.
  • Offered helpful and efficient service at the counter to supply staff with the stock required.
  • Worked on a mine site adhering to strict safety protocols on a FIFO 8-6 roster.
  • Maintained neat and clean store areas in line with health and safety policies.

FF&E Supervisor

Specific FF&E
Melbourne, Victoria
12.2021 - 01.2023
  • Supervised projects of various sizes, determined what clients required, arranged delivery of stock and equipment and organised staff to ensure projects were efficiently finished to a high standard to guarantee client satisfaction.
  • Led by example to maintain team motivation, ensuring daily tasks were performed accurately and efficiently.
  • Delivered and installed joinery to various hotels and accommodations utilising power and hand tool skills to a high standard.

Research Scientist

Surrey NanoSystems
Newhaven, East Sussex
10.2017 - 10.2019
  • Worked within the research and development team behind the current darkest material in the world, Vantablack, and other highly emissive, super-black coatings.
  • Completed COSHH and risk assessments to design experiments, implementing new safety controls when needed.
  • Innovated and engineered a unique, ultra-black polymer composite coating with increased durability compared to prior coatings manufactured by the company.
  • Developed an ultra-black paint with low toxicity that can be easily applied to large scale projects such as buildings.
  • Gained skills in plasma processing, chemical vapour deposition, physical vapour deposition and spray application of thin film coatings.
  • Learnt different qualification methods and quality control techniques for nanomaterial coatings such as shock and vibration testing, scanning electron microscope and UV-Vis and IR spectrometry.
  • Processed and applied coatings to a number of customer parts who required reduction of stray light.

Research Internship

Rothamsted Research
Harpenden, Hertfordshire
07.2015 - 09.2015
  • Investigated the pharmaceutical value of compounds in the Salix triandra plant.
  • Gained experience in analytical techniques including 1H and 13C NMR, COSY NMR, LC-MS and preparative HPLC.
  • Developed analytical skills by assigning atoms in molecules with up to 30 carbons in from the data from NMR, LC-MS and HPLC.
  • Utilised independent thinking skills to complete a lab project exploring the pharmaceutical value of the metabolites in willow plants.
