Responsibilities:


  • Ensure maintenance and operational procedures are current and consistently applied to support the delivery of our services
  • Ensure maintenance of operational plant, vessels, equipment including pollution response equipment to ensure that GCWA can deliver their services effectively and efficiently
  • Participate as a team member of activities associated with GCWA programs and emergency situations
  • Identify the requirement for and use relevant resources to issue notice to mariners to ensure that local boat users are aware of hazards
  • Boat Ramp & Pontoon maintenance
  • Provide field and administrative support in handling hazards to navigation
  • Maintain or audit all aspects in the regional aids to navigation program. Including any changes or new additions or removal of navigation markers
  • Participate and interact with other people in other areas of GCWA and external agencies to deliver agreed outcomes
  • Actively participate in performance appraisal processes and development opportunities and provide support to other staff
  • Contribute to safe and healthy workplace by complying with WPH&S legislation, codes of practice, standards and departmental policy and procedures and participating in risk management and corrective action programs
  • Forward reports and updates of any new installations or movements yo Nav Aids/Marine signs to GIS for inclusion into chart updates. Beacon to Beacon and GCWA records.


Other Duties:


  • All servicing and upkeep of navigational aids and ensuring they meet the standard.
  • Marina Audits for pollution prevention/fire prevention
  • Buoy mooring audits on mooring areas
  • Speed sign audits
  • Marine incident investigation assistance
  • Providing maritime and local knowledge to assist with the completion of Hydrographic Surveys for aids to navigational and tidal information
  • Perform skipper duties for pilotage duties
  • Conduct audits for buoy moorings, derelict vessels, vessels at anchor and aids to navigation
  • On call responsibilities and point of contact for any other new crew for decision making if unsure of process
  • Self Development
  • Ensure all vessels are current and kept up to date with NSCV
  • Vessel inductions/safety management system review and development
  • Decision making in an on call roll


Pollution:


  • Current Certificate 1V in Marine Pollution Response
  • Maintain all pollution equipment for servicing and maintenance records and sign for
  • Lead oil spill response in local area
  • Liaise with GCCC in respect to both pollution response and prevention
  • Carriage of on call phone on a roster basis
  • Able to assist and gather evidence in the collective/storage of evidence
