Work History

Operator / Leading hand

Service Stream
Clayton, Victoria
07.2024 - Current
  • I was employed at Service Stream as an operator. Due to prior experiences in the industry I also seen as a leading hand for multiple crew leads throughout the projects.
  • My daily tasks involve operating on the crew, maintaining machines and assisting with labouring. Due to my experience and recognition as leading hand, I also assist crew leads with planning the project, managing the crew, organizing deliveries and completing key parts of project such as mains connections and shutdowns
  • Throughout my time at Service Stream, I have stepped up for most of the renewal's projects I have been involved in to be a temporary crew lead when crew leads are on leave/sick and take on the full responsibility of managing a crew. This includes filling out prestart documents, planning the day's work and communicating with crew members, insuring jobs are carried out efficiently and safely, dealing with time management and risk management.
  • A key project I had the opportunity to take full control over as crew lead was Elizabeth St Northcote. This project involved lift and re-laying a new water main. I was given the chance to try out this position for over two weeks, managing a full crew and completing all required tasks alongside supervisor Dave Draper.
  • At the end of 2025 I was given the opportunity to try a new area of works. Myself and other crew members were given the task of scoping upcoming potential renewals projects. We got to participate in scoping difficult projects and working together to find the most efficient way to approach these projects. This allowed me to strengthen understanding of project planning, risk identification and constructability considerations.
  • I also took the time to learn how to use JAMS, this has assisted me with taking lead when needed to by filling out necessary documents on site such as SWMS, ensuring all documentation is up to date and crew/visitors are signed on so the project can progress.

Operator/Second Hand

Leighroy's Earth Works
10.2018 - 07.2024
  • Started off my career at Leighroy's as an apprentice, I spent a lot of time getting dirty and learning how to use hand tools, becoming a safe spotter for heavy machines and operating skid steers and loaders.
  • In 2021 I completed my cert III in civil construction, which gave me full competency in using a wide range of hand tools. From there I became an operator and leading hand on a water renewals crew. Taking up a lot of responsibilities such as keeping machines in working order and documenting issues and damages, digging around live assets, trenching, loading and unloading trucks, slinging/chaining heavy items such as mains connection set-ups.
  • A lot of my tasks were organized and conducted by myself as being put in a position of leading hand. This involved stepping up as temporary crew lead to manage a crew when needed.
  • I was given the opportunity to increase my knowledge in the water industry by becoming crew lead for a water maintenance crew, working alongside Downer crews on the SEW maintenance contract. This job put my skills to the test, jumping into a new area of reactive work. Over this period of time, I gathered more insight to key parts of projects such as traffic management, reading and interpreting plans/BYD, problem solving, time management and customer complaints handling.
  • I have briefly worked on other projects throughout my time in the company such as new development projects, installing water mains using 20-ton machinery and site cuts on various other projects.
  • Leighroy's gave me the opportunity to take part and also step up and lead in many different types of projects over almost 5 years. This has allowed me to become very versatile in the projects I take part in. I was recognized as a key worker throughout the company.
