To whom it may concern,
I am writing to express my interest in the Camera Operator position at Nine's London Bureau. With ten years of experience capturing news all over Australia, I bring a strong track record of visual storytelling, technical expertise, and collaboration in fast paced environments.
Throughout my career, i have worked across major newsrooms in both metropolitan and regional areas. Currently I work in Sydney's Nine newsroom where I have the opportunity to learn from some of the best Camera Operators and Reporters in the country. In my roll I film and Edit for the flagship program 6pm Bulletin, as well as Today Show, 4pm and network stories. These roles have strengthened my adaptability, fast turnaround editing skills, and ability to work effectively under pressure.
One of the most rewarding parts of this role has been travelling the country and connecting with the people whose stories we have the privilege to share. I am passionate about meaningful storytelling ,and pride myself on being reliable, calm and creative in dynamic environments.
I have enjoyed working and learning with Nine News over the past several years. I am ready for the next challenge, and would be proud to represent Nine News on a global platform.
Yours Sincerely,
Hamish Edwards
In my role at Nine News Sydney I have covered a variety of local, public interest, and breaking news and sport. Some of my highlights include The Hunter Valley bus crash, Bondi Stabbing, Cyclone Alfred, the NSW State Election, the Federal Election, State of Origin, and NRL Grand Final.
My first metroplitan newsroom role was in Perth, working within a larger team that allowed for broader coverage opportunities, including interstate and international assignments. This position expanded my skill set to include production-level interviews and in-depth storytelling for 60 Minutes, developed through collaboration with journalists, producers, and editors. Highlights of my work in Perth included coverage of the abduction of Cleo Smith, the Claremont serial killer court case, Cyclone Seroja, Bali post-COVID, and the Gold Coast AFL Hub.
I joined Channel Nine as part of the launch team for their Local News Network in Far North Queensland. This unique opportunity allowed us to build a regional news service from the ground up, which required strong organisation, clear communication, and creative problem-solving. In a regional setting, I took on a wide range of responsibilities including story development, VJ, and editing. Highlights included coverage of natural disasters and local community stories.
I began my career at Channel Seven News, where I developed the core skills of filming and editing news. Regularly shooting and editing up to eight pkgs per day, I learnt the ability to work on a tight deadline. I also travelled across Queensland to provide coverage support in regional bureaus such as Townsville and Mackay.
