• Assessment and monitoring of patients post operatively, Eg. vital sign and pain assessment, management of PCA & PCEA devices.
• Performed clinical skills such as wound dressings, drain management & removal, continuous bladder irrigation & manual irrigation of IDC's, venepuncture and IV cannulation.
• Medication administration including controlled drugs, subcutaneous and IV medications.
• Updated patient notes and clinical paperwork each shift to ensure accurate documentation.
• Reported to and discussed patient care with Surgeons and Anesthetists during ward rounds and as required.
• Admitted patients to the ward, which included obtaining a comprehensive health history, physical assessment and ECG.
• Ward maintenance such as weekly controlled drug checks, re-stocking and cleaning of clinical areas, daily emergency trolley checks, correctly storing blood products, participating in audits ect.
• Responding to emergency situations and working in collaboration with clinical staff to provide emergent assessment and treatment of deteriorating patients.
• Collaborated with the multidisciplinary team to provide care in line with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways.

• Collaborated with doctors and the multidisciplinary team to nurse patients in an acute hospital setting.
• Provided end-of-life care to palliative patients and supported patients and family throughout this process.
• Covered a variety of specialities within the general ward of a small rural hospital, such as oncology, haematology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, general medical, older adult rehabilitation, palliative care and more.
• Attended and responded to emergency situations.
• Advocated for patients by communicating care preferences to practitioners, verifying interventions met treatment goals and utilising opportunities for patient education.
• Performed patient cares and general nursing duties such as medication administration, wound assessment and management, indwelling catheter insertion, NGT insertion, phlebotomy and peripheral cannula insertion, post-operative assessment and treatment, intervention and management of deteriorating patients.
• I worked some occasional shifts alongside experienced RN's in the 4 bedded adjacent critical care unit. For example, managing patients requiring airway support, cardiac monitoring and higher levels of observation and care.

Also employed between August 2021 - March 2022.

• Tasks included vein assessment, venepuncture for collection of blood and blood products, health assessment and donor interviews, monitoring of donors for adverse reactions, and administration of medications under standing-orders.
• Set-up and pack-down of mobile blood donation centres within the Mid-Central NZ region. This included the correct storage, packing and consignment of blood products.
• Operation and management of specialised centrifuge equipment for plasma collection.
• Nursing assessment, treatment and management of haemochromatosis patients during venesection clinics.
• Strict adherence to standard operating procedures due to the nature of manufacturing a medication/product under the Good Manufacturing Standards.

• Completed a nursing entry to practice (NETP) year as a new graduate nurse on a busy Medical/Surgical unit of a rural hospital.
• Assessment, treatment and nursing intervention across a wide variety of medical and surgical patients.
• Practiced a wide range of clinical skills within the medical/surgical setting, for example, female and male catheterisation, PICC and central line management.
• Managed care from admission to discharge.
• Advocated for the individual needs of my patients.
