As a Front End Team Member at Woolworths, I gained experience in customer service. I spent a large amount of my time serving customers at the check out, this meant packing bags, communicating with the customer and money handling. During my time at Woolworths, I had various other roles such as collecting online orders, handling and serving cigarettes and collecting trolleys. As the stores trolley collector, I would work up to 2 hours of trolley collecting. This showed my hard work ethic and my reliability to work in a team setting.

  • At Woolworths, my usual weekly shifts would include early morning and late night closing shifts. Thursday nights after school would start at 4pm and end at 9/10pm. This gave me good experience in working late night and closing down the store.
  • My early morning shifts would generally be on the weekends. My shift would start as early as 7am on Saturday or Sunday, and worked shifts lengths of 3-10 hours.
  • During my time at Woolworths, I received numerous customer compliments as I served in a polite and respectful manner. This shows my ability to reflect the companies core values and show my excellent customer service.

Basketball Referee

Basketball refereeing required me to have good communication skills and a strong ability to deal with conflict. As a referee, I would face conflict from players, coaches and spectators. This required me to communicate and explain my decisions to people of all ages. It was my responsibility as a referee to keep the game safe and orderly, taking action when a player, coach or spectator became aggressive, such as giving them a warning or a technical foul. This also further developed my confidence and multi tasking abilities as I would need to focus on many players and coaches at a time.

  • During my employment as a Basketball referee, I reached level C-1.
  • I would referee Friday Nights, generally starting at 5pm and ending at 9pm and Saturday mornings starting at 9am to 5pm. This gave my good work experience in both early and late shifts.

As a basketball coach, I would help players develop fundamental skills and create strategies for games. This required me to test my problem solving and communication skills. My time as a coach allowed me to develop strong communication and teaching skills with players, referees and parents.

  • I coached 4 seasons of junior girls basketball. This would include trainings every Tuesday and games every Saturday.
  • As a basketball coach I would have to manage 8 players, this included rotating substitutes and incorporating different teaching techniques.
