After Completing my year 12 at Men of Business Academy, I went straight into the work force, with essential Air and Electrical.
Assisting the tradesman with all aspects of residential electrical installation.
We installed split system and ducted air-con units, as well as running cables to fit lighting and power points into both new and established homes.
Some of the jobs were only a few minutes, as simple as replacing a GPO, and some jobs took two days, like running cables on new homes ''Roughing in".
This job required me to not only drive my vehicle to many different jobs in the one day, but also picking up stock from the electrical suppliers and bringing them the job sites to continue the install.
I had to climb ladders, sometimes two stories, also climbing into house roofs in the middle of summer to run cables and ducting.
Using many different power tools like drills and grinders, as well as hand tools like pliers and cutters/strippers.
During all of these above jobs mentioned I was running tools and parts back and forth to the work ute.
Also in this job I was required to communicate with many customers in a professional way, listening to details of the job we were there to do, and also taking in other information like not letting owners dogs out, or parking in spaces that they did not want us to.
I worked at my dads Patio and Carport business, whenever I was not at school, so mostly weekends and school holidays.
For two years or more, I helped him building carports and patios all over Brisbane.
This job required me to work on ladders and also on top of house roofs.
Also in this job we used to do the rough in of electrical on every job for the lighting inside the insulated panel roofs, so the electrician could come after and do the connection.
Lifting very heavy sheets up above my head, to whoever was the builder, so they could put it into position, I then hopped on top of that roof to help them screw the roof off.
Digging holes and mixing concrete.
Using power tools such as drills, screw guns and grinders.
Great at communication with customers
Working on many different size ladders
I have a current apprenticeship training contract with Megt.
