Despite studying International Relations at university, I knew throughout my degree I wanted to have a career in financial planning. I have a family friend who is a financial planner, and even as a young kid she seemed to be one of the few adults I knew who loved her job.
Throughout my time at university, I enjoyed speaking to her about the stock market, financial planning terminology, tax breaks, portfolio risk and what went on inside a client meeting. She always encouraged me to join the industry and told me my listening skills and ability to communicate complex ideas would make me a great financial planner.
I joined Mazar’s grad program from university and my main responsibilities were organizing my boss’s calendar, attending client meetings, and writing advice reports. Within the first month I was attending client meetings on a weekly basis, which was my favourite part of the job and where I done most of my learning.
Due to personal reasons I have spent the last 9 months in Australia working as a kids football coach. I plan to return to the UK at the beginning of 2024 and restart my career as a financial planner.
