Work Placement Preservice Teacher

Pelican Childcare
Mount Martha, VIC
10.2024 - 11.2024
  • I attended here for my final work placement as part of my Bachelor of Early Childhood Education studies for 20 days. I was in the Junior Kinder room with 3- to 4-year-olds.
  • For the first couple of days, I observed and assisted the supervising teacher, then helped implement and plan short teaching sessions, moving towards substantial parts of the day by the end of the week.
  • Moved from the role of observer to active participant, gradually taking on more responsibility for the teaching program, including planning the program in response to observations made.
  • For my last week, I had to plan for all children across sessions for the whole day, under the direction of the Supervising Teacher.
  • I took on teacher responsibility for all the planning and implementation of all care routines and learning experiences for all children.
  • I found this placement to be rewarding. Since my time here, my confidence has continued to grow in becoming a teacher. I was confident in running the room and in conversing with the families.

  • I gained hands-on experience during my third placement for 15 days in the nursery.
  • I enjoyed my time in the nursery room. I enjoyed planning suitable learning experiences for the infants to enjoy, explore, and discover.
  • I have been able to move my thinking from the older age group to planning and engaging with this younger age group.
  • Viewed other ways of documenting children's learning that is different to what I do at my current position as educator.

  • I am continuing to learn, grow, and learn through my placements. It was a great experience to work in a different community from where I work.
  • I was able to support the supervising teacher in really engaging and extending the children's learning through my ability to organize the room.
