Intern Pharmacist

  • Practiced in 6 CHHHS sites.
  • Extensive ward experience with 9 months of rotations in general surgery and general medicine wards and specialist locations such as geriatrics, palliative care and paediatrics.
  • Shadowed senior pharmacy staff to learn proper procedures on medication history taking, reviewing and discharging as well as inter-hospital transfers. Furthermore, taking these learnings and creating my own processes.
  • Comfortable in navigating iPharmacy software to dispense, order ward supplies, and manage imprest.
  • Delivered counselling to various patient groups (including patients with hearing or language barriers) discharging with a range of medication and/ or medical devices. Non-pharmacological advice was also given where appropriate.
  • Knowledge on where to find appropriate resources and experience with using clinical judgements when patients don't fit into a particular guideline.
  • Confident in compounding medications not limited to creams, and suspensions.
  • Provided education to staff on any questions they have surrounding pharmacology and directing them to appropriate resources. I have also delivered education to nursing and midwife graduates on medication safety, as well as attending prescribing workshops for medical interns to help answer questions. I was proud to attend the 2023 Cairns Career Expedition on what a pharmacy career looks like and how to become a pharmacist, as well as advocating doing pharmacy as an undergraduate degree for students interested in doing a post-graduate medical degree.
  • I was involved in making a post-operative pain management resource for CHHHS surgical patients to allow for the continuity of care from hospital to community.
