RESEARCH PROJECTS

I) Effects of Aerobic Vs Resistance Exercise on quality of life and the postmenopausal symptoms and in women.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of aerobic and resistance exercise protocols on symptoms of menopause and quality of life in middle aged women.

Description: The study design was experimental. Twenty women who had menopause were randomly selected and divided into 2 groups, Group A(N=10) aerobic exercises(cycling or walking) & Group R(N=10) resistive exercises(with therabands ) for 4 days/week for 6 weeks. Pre-test measures at start and Post-test measures at commencement of 6 weeks were done by Menopause Rating Scale, weight and BMI were also assessed. Results showed statistically significant improvement in scores of MRS (p<.05), weight reduction (p<.05) and improvement in BMI (p<.05) in both the groups by these exercises.

II) Effect of Aerobic Exercises Vs Callisthenic Exercises on Maximal Oxygen Uptake (vo2 max) in overweight school children.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of Aerobic and Callisthenic Exercises on Vo2 max in overweight school children.

Description: 50 overweight children had been included in the study (aged 10-15 years). The subjects were randomly divided into two groups i.e 25 in Aerobic Exercise (A) and 25 in Calisthenics Exercise Group (B) respectively. The pre and post intervention weight, Body mass index and VO2 Max were noted and compared in the two exercise conditions for duration of 12 weeks. The VO2 Max was measured for baseline and after 12 weeks\intervention with the help of Queen Step Test. The statistical analysis revealed significant differences in post 12 week intervention readings of Maximal Oxygen Uptake (VO2 Max) (t-value = 5.951, p= 0.000),Body Weight (t- value = 2.028 ,p =0.0481) and BMI, Body Mass Index (t- value = 3.673, p= 0.0006) between the two groups.
